Road construction blocks thousands of miles of roads every day, millions of gallons of fuel are wasted, the air is polluted, accidents occur, buildings are damaged, and people lose time due to delays. Trenchless excavation dramatically reduces the time, fuel, and damage that trenching causes.

With trenchless excavation, new pipes can be installed without shutting down roads or sidewalks – minimizing traffic disruptions and saving municipalities from rebuilding infrastructure above the utility lines.

Pipe bursting is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative.

Damaged pipes can be repaired economically through pipe bursting. Approximately 31,000 miles of pipes have been rehabilitated worldwide using pipe bursting, the most widely used trenchless pipe replacement method. In this method, damaged pipelines can be replaced within the same route without any significant impact on soil or groundwater.

When is replacement necessary?

In general, it has to be decided whether repair, renovation or pipe renewal (replacement) is required.

A pipe replacement is necessary:

• When repair or renovation is technically or economically inappropriate;
• When the hydraulic capacity needs to be improved by a greater pipe diameter;
• When repair or renovation offers only a short term solution with a pipe replacement being inevitable;
• When there is a request for a long-lasting pipe durability and/or a higher product life span; and
• When the static loading capacity of the defective pipe would be otherwise negatively affected.
