How does the winter cold affect my septic system?

Fall Septic System Preparation
Don’t forget your septic tank when you are doing your Fall cleaning chores. Here are some Fall Maintenance Tips to keep your Septic Tank working smoothly.
Insulate your Septic System
Over the winter months, your septic tank will need extra insulation. Allow the grass that covers your septic system to grow a bit more than normal over the Fall months. This will provide an extra layer of protection.
Mulch can be laid over the septic area for additional insulation during colder months.
Pump your Septic Tank
Pump your tank before winter with its snow and freezing temperatures arrives. It is difficult to locate the tank when it is snowing or if the ground has frozen. Give us a ring if you are ready to have the tank pumped.
Check for leaks
Fix any leaks in the pipes of your house and septic tank now, before they cause pipes to freeze over the Winter. Are you worried about your septic system during the winter?
Change Leach Lines
Have you got a distribution box in your farm? The fall is the perfect time to replace the elbows on your leach line to give this section of leach field some rest. You can return to the leach field in Spring after it has had time to recover.
Daily Septic Tank Maintenance
You can keep your septic tank healthy by following simple methods like alternating the use of appliances and selecting what you put down your drain.
